MATCH REPORTS by Geraint Evans:

21 Mar 10 : New Windsor Eagles 0 – 9 Burnham Junior Jaguars Whites (S.W.O.C.T)

The heavy pitch would surely not be conducive to playing good football against the Juniors’ largely unknown opponents in this crucial cup tie. And so it turned out to be the case as the first half largely lacked any flowing football although the Juniors certainly had the lion’s share of the possession. It took until the last minute of the half for the breakthrough to come, a fine Chester corner was met by the head of the ‘salmonesque’ Jack. Great finish – 1:0 Juniors. Half time.

The second half began and this time it took just two minutes to double the lead, some wonderful footwork took Connor past three defenders before he fired low into the bottom corner. 2:0
Just a few minutes later a great run down the wing took Rhys to the bye-line, he crossed to Jack who struck a superb volley for his second and the Juniors’ third that had surely put the tie out of Windsor’s reach. Three minutes after the third came the fourth, this though was a carbon copy of the first with an excellent Chester cross met sweetly by Jack for his hatrick. With 10 minutes to go the fifth goal came and this was a carbon copy of the third, Rhys crossed to Jack who finished well for his fourth. The sixth came when Rhys set up Connor for his second. The seventh saw Ben’s shot lead to a scramble in the area and Connor’s finish delivering his own hatrick. The eighth saw Bradley’s shot saved by the keeper and Chester finished off. The striker doubled his tally 30 seconds later with a smart finish for his second and the Juniors’ ninth. A special mention to Taran and Aaron who were as solid and reliable as ever and restricted Windsor to a couple of long range chances only. A final special mention to Harry the Cat for staying focussed despite not touching the ball throughout the game – Well done Bo and well done Juniors..!!

14 Mar 10 : Burnham Junior Jaguars Whites 4 – 0 Beaconsfield SYCOB Rams

This was the fourth meeting of the season for these two sides and the weather was ideal for playing football. The whistle went and the tension was tangible as the first few minutes of the game saw some half chances at both ends. Halfway through the first half though, Connor passed to Rhys who in turn battled past a couple of defenders and found Chester who from a particularly tight angle, neatly found the bottom corner. 1.0 Juniors and the relief from the home fans was palpable..!!
Just two minutes later a Juniors corner was cleared by the Rams and the ball ended up at Bradley’s feet who fired a tremendous low shot that was too powerful for the Rams keeper to do anything about. 2.0 Juniors. The remaining minutes of the first half saw some more half chances but some great defending by the ever reliable duo of Aaron and Taran backed up by the great Bo in goal ensured that half time came with the Juniors holding their 2 goal advantage.

The second half saw some good work from Jack and Ben although there were no more goals until just a few minutes from the end when a Connor throw found Ben who made no mistake from close range. 3.0 juniors. Just a minute later a long ball from Chester found Rhys who put the ball past the keeper for Ben to stroke the ball into the empty net. 4.0 Juniors. The final whistle went – an emphatic win by the Juniors.

07 Mar 10 : Beaconsfield SYCOB Rams 2 – 4 Burnham Junior Jaguars Whites

A low sun in the sky had started thawing out the Beaconsfield pitch when the referee blew his whistle to start the match between two good footballing sides. The Juniors kicked uphill in the first half although they had the better of the first ten minutes with a number of half chances, each time though the excellent Rams keeper keeping them at bay. With only a few minutes of the first half remaining a spell of Juniors pressure led to the opening goal when an unusually low corner from Connor eluded the Rams defence and went straight into the bottom corner. 1.0 Juniors. That's how the half ended with the Juniors probably just about deserving their half time lead.

Following what must have been a rousing half time team talk, the Rams needed just three minutes to level the score with an excellent headed goal straight from a corner. The Rams second goal came just two minutes after their first - a breakaway goal putting the home side in the lead. 2.1 Rams. End to end football ensued and the Juniors’ chance to equalise came after a handball in the penalty area. Up stepped the ice cool Connor who subsequently tucked the penalty away in the bottom corner. 2.2 - game on..!! With just five minutes remaining Chester cut in from the right wing, shot low past the keeper and hit the frame of the post, the rebound falling nicely to Rhys who doesn't miss from two yards..!! 3:2 Juniors. With the Rams chasing the game the Juniors broke away and the light-footed Bradley kept his composure from his own half to finish confidently past the Rams 'keeper.
The final whistle went to end a hard fought contest. 4:2 Juniors - Well played all.

21 Feb 10 : New Windsor Falcons 0-7 Burnham Junior Jaguars Whites

The Juniors really needed to put in a good performance to bounce back from the previous week’s defeat, their first of the season. They duly delivered, playing some excellent football on what was inevitably a heavy muddy pitch. It took just seven minutes to deliver the first goal of the game, Chester providing an excellent low cross for Rhys to make no mistake from just a couple of yards out. 1:0 Juniors. Just four minutes later Connor’s shot took a slight deflection on its way into the Falcons goal. 2:0 Juniors. The Falcons created a couple of half chances on the break but excellent Juniors’ defending ensured the half ended with the Juniors leading by two goals.

Just five minutes into the second half a well placed corner from Connor was sweetly met on the volley by Rhys. 3:0 Juniors. The Falcons kept the Juniors at bay for the next ten minutes. However, with just five minutes left on the clock, a smart through ball from Aaron put Bradley in the clear – he turned on the proverbial sixpence and shot low into the corner of the Falcons net for the Juniors’ fourth. The fifth goal came just two minutes later when Chester got on the end of a goalmouth scramble and prodded the ball home from close range. The striker’s second goal though couldn’t have been more different to his first – just a minute after his first, a mazy run and a thumping finish into the top of the net. 6:0 Juniors.

The last kick of the game was a wonderfully struck free kick – the dead ball was struck perfectly into the top of the net from well outside the area by the ever impressive Connor to make it 7:0 to the Juniors. - That’s better Boys..!!

07 Feb 10 : Hillingdon Youth Reds 1 - 3 Burnham Junior Jaguars Whites

Cold weather and a muddy pitch greeted the teams for the Juniors’ first league game of 2010. The game started with open, end to end football and it took just two minutes for the first goal – a neat through-ball from Rhys put Chester in the clear and the striker coolly slotted the ball past the keeper and into the net. 1:0 Juniors. The open football continued with Hillingdon successfully playing on the break and after just eight minutes an excellent turn and shot by the Reds striker cancelled out the Juniors early goal. With neither side deserving the lead, half time came with the score at 1.1 – a fair reflection of the first half.

With the sound of their manager’s instructions clearly still ringing in their ears, the Juniors started the second half as they had started the first and it was just a minute old when a strong run through the middle of the park by Rhys saw him out-muscle the Hillingdon defence and finish superbly. 2:1 Juniors. The Reds continued to battle hard and look for the equalising goal, however, the Juniors defence were proving a much tougher proposition in the second half and keeper Harrybo’ pulled another match winning save out of the hat when Hillingdon made a rare strike on goal.

On the thirty minute mark the Juniors were awarded a free kick well outside the area. Up stepped Connor who hit a thunderous shot bound for the top corner. The away fans were ready to applaud another goal when the outstanding Hillingdon keeper turned the ball onto the bar which rebounded harmlessly away. Connor’s excellent performance was rounded off when he finally got the goal that he deserved just five minutes from time. A great cross-field ball from Ben found Connor through on goal and he made no mistake when he neatly shot low and hard. 3:1 Juniors. The game ended just a few minutes later and was probably a fair result given the Juniors domination of the second half. A special mention to the referee, who, despite constant pressure, ensured a good flowing game of football was had by all.

22 Nov 09 : Beaconsfield SYCOB Rams 2 – 3 Burnham Junior Jaguars Whites

Over the last couple of seasons, games between these two footballing sides have always been very tight and today was going to be no exception, although the fierce horizontal rain and very strong winds were not conducive to playing ‘sexy’ football. The game started with the Juniors kicking downhill and the first 15 minutes saw a number of half chances for both sides, however, neither team had the cutting edge. The Juniors really needed to go into half time with the advantage of the ‘slope’ and that looked unlikely until with just 2 minutes of the first half left, the ball came out to Connor who struck a sweet low shot that hit the back of the net. 1:0 Juniors. Half time came and the main priority was to keep the boys dry and following the instruction of the manager the parents created a human wall to protect the boys from the elements . Ian certainly made the greatest contribution..!!

The second half began and the Rams took just 2 minutes to take advantage of the slope to score the equaliser. The rain continued and the pitch became heavier, however, it was the light footed Bradley who evaded a number of tackles to restore the Juniors lead just 3 minutes after they had been pegged back. 2:1 Juniors. The lead did not last long though and the Rams were back on level terms just 3 minutes later. The Rams then spent most of the last 10 minutes of the game camped in the Juniors half but a breakaway by the Juniors saw Bradley pick up the ball just outside the Rams area, beat 2 players, walk round the keeper and slot the ball home – great goal. 3:2 Juniors

The Juniors defended bravely for the last few minutes of the game, sustaining prolonged Rams pressure. Eventually the final whistle went and brought to an end what really was a battle of a football match. Well played both teams.

15 Nov 09: Burnham Junior Jaguars Whites 4 - 2 New Windsor Falcons

With two players away on International duty the Whites were down to the bare seven players for the second week in a row. Unlike the previous day, the home fans had found their allocated places and keenly awaited kick off. Following a well respected minute’s silence the referee blew his whistle and the game began, however, with just two minutes on the clock a lung-bursting run by Aaron saw the ball come to Bradley who, not surprisingly, found the back of the net. 1:0 Juniors. Just two minutes later Chester’s shot rebounded off the post to Aaron whose shot came off the keeper only to be put in by you know who. 2:0 Juniors. The third goal came with just seven minutes on the clock when Chester’s well hit shot rebounded to ‘the Scorpion’ who made it 3. That’s three hat-tricks in a row and 10 goals in 3 games for Bradley.

Surely this was going to be a proverbial ‘walk in the park’ for the Juniors – any thoughts of a thrashing soon disappeared though when a break away by the Falcons quick centre forward ended with a low shot into the bottom corner. 3:1 Juniors. Incredibly, just two minutes later another attack on the break saw the Falcons score their second when a shot deflected in off the post giving the Cat in the Juniors goal no chance. 3:2 Juniors. Shortly after, the half time whistle went and what should have been a comfortable half time team talk was probably anything but. The second half began with a sustained period of pressure from the Whites that culminated in their fourth goal. Connor’s well struck free-kick was diverted into the Falcons goal by Rhys who finally struck his first elusive goal of the season. Five minutes later the final whistle went, ending a game that looked as if it would be completely one sided. It was not the case though and credit to the Falcons for never giving up. Final score – Juniors 4, Falcons 2.

08 Nov 09 : Chalfont Saints Sharks 1 – 3 Burnham Junior Jaguars Whites

The early morning news was not good for the Whites Manager as he found out about two late withdrawals from the team leaving just the bare seven to take on the resurging Sharks on a muddy wet pitch. Any concerns the away fans had though were allayed early on when Connor’s run and pass to Bradley was sublimely finished with just 7 minutes on the clock. 1:0 Juniors.

The advantage did not last long though as with just a further 5 minutes played an excellent long shot from the Sharks gave Bo no chance – one a piece. The two sides were level for just 3 minutes when Bradley’s long shot made it 2:1 to the Juniors, which is how the half eventually ended.

The second half was only a few minutes old when the striker who is deadlier than a scorpion’s sting struck again to put the Juniors 2 goals up and in the process complete a well deserved hat-trick. The game opened up with both sides looking to play attacking football and only yet another stunning two handed save from the Cat maintained the Juniors’ two goal lead. The final whistle went and the Juniors rejoiced at what was their seventh win in eight games. Well done the Juniors..!!

01 Nov 09 : Burnham Junior Jaguars Whites 8 – 0 Hillingdon Youth Blacks ( League Cup )

The day’s weather was more conducive to fishing than playing football although the pitch was wearing well. The game kicked off and within just 3 minutes of the start, Hillingdon survived a scare when Aaron slammed a shot against the crossbar. However, just seconds later Connor’s long shot found its way to Jack who coolly tucked away the Junior’s first goal. The half was barely 10 minutes old when a scramble in Hillingdon’s box ended with Chester driving home the Junior’s second goal. Before the end of the half a break on the Junior’s left culminated with Rhys crossing the ball to Bradley who slotted in his first goal of the morning. Just a minute later, Rhys passed to Connor who tucked away the Junior’s next goal. Half time came and the Juniors led 4:0.

The second half was just 5 minutes old when Chester’s corner was seen home by Bradley for his second. The goals continued when Aaron followed up Chester’s shot on goal. 6:0 Juniors.
With 5 minutes remaining Rhys broke down the right wing and crossed to Bradley who finished off the move to complete his hat trick. The same two players paired up again with a carbon copy move that saw Rhys run down the right wing and crossed low to Bradley, who scored his fourth and the team’s eighth goal. To Hillingdon’s credit, they never gave up and had a couple of half chances during the game, however, the Juniors deservedly progress to the next round,

Well done to both the Juniors and Hillingdon for braving and beating the elements..!!

25 Oct 09 : Burnham Junior Jaguars Whites 0 - 0 Boyne Hill Tornadoes

The league’s only two unbeaten sides met at the Juniors home ground and the record crowd of 52 were bristling with expectation. With the Juniors on top form and the Tornadoes not having conceded a goal, this match was guaranteed to be close. The Juniors had the best of the opening ten minutes with a couple of good chances, both of which were created as a result of eight early corners. They could not take advantage of their pressure however, and Boyne Hill could just have easily scored when they broke away. Had their volleyed effort on goal been more accurate they would have gone one up. As the end of the half drew near Jack found himself in plenty of space but was unlucky as his crisp shot went just wide. Half time and 0:0.

The second half began and Jack wasted no time in fashioning yet another chance, his shot though, was well saved by the Boyne Hill keeper. With just 10 minutes left, Rhys picked up the ball on the right wing, he cut inside and let go a right-footed shot that looked bound for goal only for the ball to rebound off the middle of the crossbar. Just as it looked as if the game would end in a goalless draw, a speculative yet hard hit shot was brilliantly saved by ‘the Cat’ to secure another clean sheet for the Juniors. The spoils were shared although Boyne Hill were definitely the luckier and consequently the happier with the result.

18 Oct 09 : Burnham Junior Jaguars Blues 0 – 1 Burnham Junior Jaguars Whites

There are many fierce rivalries in football, Arsenal and Tottenham, Everton and Liverpool, however, Burnham Juniors Whites and Blues tops the lot. With both teams being unbeaten so far this season this game had even more significance. The Whites had the best of the opening 5 minutes although all shots at goal were wide of the target. The Blues began to find their way into the game and had a couple of chances of their own. Quality football was at a premium throughout the first half as the pressure of the occasion had clearly got to both sides. Unsurprisingly there was no score at half time.

The second half began as the first half had ended with what can only be described as ‘panicky’ football from both sides. The breakthrough, however, came halfway through the second half when a quality corner from Rhys was superbly met by Ben’s thundering header, 1:0 to the Whites.

The nervy football continued for the rest of the game with few clear cut chances from either side, there was to be though a twist in the tale. With what was almost the last kick of the game, a Blues striker hit the perfect shot from just outside the area and it was clearly destined from the top right hand corner when from nowhere ‘the Bo’ flew through the air, got a firm hand to the ball and turned the ball past the post. Stunning..!!

11 Oct 09 : Burnham Junior Jaguars s Whites 4 – 0 Hillingdon Youth Reds

Following last week’s narrow victory for the Whites over today’s opponents it was likely to be another tough game. As it turned out though, the game proved to be far more one sided than the first meeting between the two sides. With just 3 minutes gone the ball came to Chester who from all of 20 yards hit a speculative high ball that bounced in front of Hillingdon’s keeper, it then bounced behind him and into the empty net. 1:0 Juniors. Just a further 3 minutes had passed when a through ball from Aaron bounced just in front of Bradley who volleyed home sweetly to make it 2:0 to the Juniors. The score stayed the same until half time although a superbly struck free kick from Connor smashed against the crossbar keeping the lead down to just 2.

The second half was only a few minutes old when a rare Hillingdon break saw an unmarked striker shoot low, only to be denied by an excellent save by ‘Safehands’ Bo. The ball was quickly up the other end and an excellent corner from Rhys was met by Jack’s header that came back off the post. Bradley was most alert and slotted the rebound into the net, 3:0 Juniors. The Whites were awarded a free kick with just 5 minutes remaining and Jack hit a screamer that came back off the post, however, just 2 minutes later Jack got what he deserved with a well hit long shot that nestled in the top right corner. 4:0 Juniors. Great passing football Guys – well done..!!

04 Oct 09 : Hillingdon Youth Reds 0 - 1 Burnham Junior Jaguars Whites (League Cup/Plate)

The first cup/plate game of the season saw the Whites take on fellow League A team, Hillingdon Youth Reds. Playing against good footballing teams is always going to be difficult but with one half of the meanest defences in the league missing, even tougher.

The Whites needn’t have worried though as Taran’s replacement Rhys had an excellent debut at the back with Aaron (even if I do say so myself..!!). The first half was a period of football that saw much positive play from both sides, a number of half chances and long range shots but lacked the cutting edge and rightfully ended 0:0.

The second half was just two minutes old when good Juniors pressure saw the ball cleared by Hillingdon, only to find the ball bounce in front of Rhys, who in turn volleyed just over the bar. Only a few minutes later another good break by the Juniors with Ben at the centre of the attack forced some great blocks by the Hillingdon defenders. The ball came out to Chester who, with the tight angle working against him, coolly slotted the ball home, 1:0 Juniors. The final 10 minutes of the game was bereft of quality chances, although the Juniors relied on the ever-dependable Bo to keep the advantage in their favour. The whistle went and the game ended 1:0, probably just about deserved – we’re in the Cup and Hillingdon are in the Plate - here’s to next week’s rematch in the league..!!

27 Sep 09 : Real Holtspur 1 – 2 Burnham Junior Jaguars Whites

The scene was set for the long-awaited game against last season’s bogey team Real Holtspur, although crowd congestion meant that the game kicked off 10 minutes late. It was well worth the wait though as both teams were keen to play positive attacking football resulting in a number of early chances for both sides. Half way through the first half though a cross field ball from Jack found Chester free on the right wing. He coolly controlled the ball and fired a thunderous volley into the top corner – unstoppable..!! 1.0 Juniors

There were no further goals in the first half and so Burnham went into the half time interval with a slender lead. The second half began as the first had ended with opportunities for both sides. Burnham were on top for the first 5 minutes and so when the equalising goal came it was truly against the run of play. A mad scramble in Burnham’s box ended when a Holtspur player smashed in from close range. 1:1 Just 5 minutes later and again despite Burnham’s incessant pressure Holtspur could have easily taken the lead were it not for another great save by Harry ‘Safehands’ – it was a good job that his Dad wasn’t refereeing the game as he could well have given a goal..!!

Anyway, with just 5 minutes remaining on the clock, Burnham’s 9th corner of the game came in low, rebounded off a Holtspur defender and faintly brushed Connor’s knee on the way past the Holtspur keeper. 2:1 Juniors. End to end football ensued for the final 5 minutes of regulation time and ( what seemed like ) another 5 minutes of injury time before the final whistle went, Burnham survived, even a last gasp shot against their crossbar was not going to deny the Juniors their second consecutive win. The voodoo was broken – great result, well played both sides.

20 Sep 09 : Burnham Junior Jaguars Whites 3 – 1 Eton Wick Juniors

And so the day had arrived, the long awaited first match of the season. The pitch was dry, the sun was out and the atmosphere red hot. The home crowd had waited so long for this game but didn’t have to wait too long for the first goal which duly arrived in the second minute when Connor cut inside the Eton Wick defence and drove a low hard shot into the bottom corner. 1:0 Juniors.
Just 10 minutes later the Juniors doubled their lead, a clever one two between Connor and Bradley ended with an excellent finish from Bradley. 2:0 Juniors, which is how the first half ended.

The second half started with Eton Wick enjoying much of the possession and that finally told when with seven minutes gone, a free kick was volleyed in from close range, giving Harry no chance. 2:1 Juniors. Just three minutes later Bradley went on a great run, crossed to Connor who was unable to connect and finish off what would have been a great move. Aaron too, had one of his synonymous 40 yard drives but this time was unable to find the back of the net. With just five minutes to go Chester picked up the ball out wide, came inside, turned on a sixpence and fired home. 3:1 Juniors. Eton Wick never gave up and with three minutes remaining looked certain to score when Harry 'Safe hands' Nurcombe made a cracking save low down to his right.

The 'play of the day' though, took place just a minute from full time and interestingly enough off the pitch. An over-exuberant spectator ( who shall remain nameless ) wearing a green coat and her daughter's skirt, sprinted 30 yards to retrieve the ball that had gone out for a throw. So keen she was to ensure that there was no break in play her attempt to kick the ball was in vain as she completely missed it - Just brilliant..!!

The final whistle went and the game ended with a 3:1 win to the Juniors. Well played to both teams... a great game.
